In September 1960, John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon squared off in the first televised presidential debates in American history.

On the morning of September 26, 1960, John F. Kennedy was a relatively unknown senator from Massachusetts. 

But by the end of the evening, after the debate , he was a star.
